12 Myths about Organ Donation

Myth 1: If Intensive Care Unit (ICU) doctors know I’m an organ donor, they won’t work hard to save me.

Fact: If you are admitted in hospital - sick or injured, the priority is to save your life. Organ donation can only be considered after brain death occurs. Moreover, the medical team treating you is distinct from the transplant team.

Myth 2: What if I recover from brain death?

Fact: Although it's a popular scenario in the movies, in real life people don't wiggle a toe after brain death occurs. The standards to determine a person is brain dead are very strict and people who have agreed to donate their organs are given additional tests to confirm that they are truly dead.

Myth 3: When awaiting transplant, financial or celebrity status is as important as medical status.

Fact: What really counts is the severity of illness, time spent waiting, blood type and other important medical information. The organ allocation system is blind to wealth or social status. Factors such as race, gender, age, income and celebrity status are never considered when determining organ recipients.

Myth 4: Organ and tissue donation mutilates the body.

Fact: The donor’s body is clothed for cremation, so there are no visible signs of donation. After eye donation, an artificial eye is inserted, the eyelids are closed, and no one can notice any difference. After bone donation, a rod is inserted where the bone has been removed. With skin donation, a very thin layer of skin similar to a sunburn peel is taken from the donor’s back. Again, because the donor is clothed, nothing is noticeable.

Myth 5: Religion bars organ donation.

Fact: Most religious beliefs - including Hinduism, Catholicism, Protestantism, Judaism, and Islam - permit organ donation or leave it to the individual’s discretion. If you're unsure of your faith’s position, clarify this from a member of your clergy.

Myth 6: As a Hindu, if I donate organs, I will be born without them in my next birth.

Fact: This is not true. When a Hindu is cremated, the entire body is consigned to flames and destroyed by fire. The only element not destroyed is the soul. The physical body does not survive death anyway, so the organs hold no relevance in rebirth as they are destructible. It is the everlasting soul that is reborn.

Myth 7:  The donor’s family is charged for donating organs.

Fact: A donor’s family is never charged. If a family believes it has been billed incorrectly, it should immediately contact the local organ procurement organisation and rectify matters.

Myth 8: Anyone can be an organ donor.

Fact: Surgeons harvest organs from patients with strong and still beating hearts. Surgeons don’t want vital organs from donors who are completely dead and whose hearts have stopped beating. Therefore, only 1% of prospective donors finally donate vital organs. Most people can become eye, bone and skin donors.

Myth 9: If a prospective donor has health problems, nobody would want the organs.

Fact: Few medical conditions automatically disqualify one from donating organs. The decision to use an organ is based on strict medical criteria. It may turn out that certain organs are not suitable for transplantation, while other organs are fine. At the time of death, only medical professionals can determine whether a prospect’s organs are suitable for transplantation.

Some diseases rule out donation including active cancer, active HIV or active infection. For a person with a history of hepatitis, more information would be required at the time of death. Persons with Hepatitis C may still donate organs to a patient who also has Hepatitis C.

Myth 10: Old people cannot donate organs.

Fact: There’s no defined cut-off age. Organs have been successfully transplanted from donors in their 70s and 80s. At the time of death, only the doctors can decide whether the organs are suitable for transplantation.

Myth 11: Only the heart, liver and kidneys can be donated.

Fact: Other organs such as the pancreas, lungs, small and large intestines, and the stomach can also be transplanted. Moreover, tissues such as skin, bone, heart valves and tendons can be donated too.

Myth 12: Having “organ donor” noted on the driver’s licence or carrying a donor card is all that’s required to become a donor. I don’t need to tell my family that I want to be a donor because it is written in my will.

Fact: While a signed donor card and a driver’s licence with an "organ donor" designation are legal documents, organ donation is usually discussed with family members prior to the donation. To ensure that your family understands and respects your wishes, it’s important that you tell them about your decision to donate life. By the time your will is read, it will be too late to recover your organs. Informing your family now is the best way to ensure your wishes are carried out.

Dishonoured Cheque..

Bounce a cheque and run? Now Interpol may be used to track you

A top Interpol Mena chief has said that as long as a bounced cheque is a criminal offence in the UAE, Interpol can be asked to track down the offender - irrespective of the amount.

Al Qubaisi who spoke to this website on the sidelines of a recent Interpol conference in Dubai said: "Interpol is only allowed to intervene in crimes which are in the Penal Code of a country. The laws of most countries in the region have issuing bad cheques listed as a criminal offense, although the case may be heard before a civilian court."

He also said that an arrest warrant issued by Interpol is not dependent on any security cooperation between countries.

Al Qubaisi refused to answer a question on whether the acts of Julian Assange, founder of WikiLeaks, constituted an e-crime.

However, he said, "In case we receive an arrest warrant from Interpol member state for the founder did of WikiLeaks in a criminal matter we will issue a red corner notice and arrest him."

Revealing Headphone and Car-Kit Menus
Think about this: If you do these tricks the new menus can not be erased after the procedure. But it's not dangerous or harmful for your phone To enable the headset-function, you have to short-circuit the "3" and "4". After a short time there is "Headset" on the display Now, menu 3-6 is now enabled! To enable the carkit-function you have to short-circuit the "4" and "5". After a short time, "Car" is shown on the display and the menu 3-7 is enabled!!

This Trick is for you how want to hear more then your supposed to!

If you short-circuit the left and the right contact with the middle contact ("3", "6" and "9") the Nokia Software hangs! The profile "Headset" will be activated. Before you do this, just active the "auto call receive" function in the headphone profile and set the ringing volume to "mute" Now you can use your phone for checking out what people are talking about in a room. Place the phone somewhere stratidic and call your phone! The phone receives the call without ringing and you can listen to what people are talking about! .....gr8...

GYM EXERCISES / WEIGHT TRAINING

Weight training is basically for strengthening and building up the muscles. An all-round programme must have some stretching and cardio-vascular exercises as well. In addition, weight training loads the bones thereby strengthening and protecting against osteoporosis. The points to keep in mind in weight training are as follows:

1.         The ideal weight training schedule is on alternate days i.e. 3 days a week with a complete rest on weekends.

2.         The systems of training different muscle groups on different days may be good for competitive sportsmen. The best system for non-competitive sportsmen is to exercise the entire body in each session. The major muscle groups are: Upper body - Shoulders, Arms, Chest and Lower body - Back, Abdomen, Legs.

3.         Suppleness and stamina can also be built up through weight training by following a body builder-type schedule. Weights are also used to stretch muscles, build muscular endurance and cardiovascular stamina by repeating each exercise by using lighter weights with more repetitions.

4.         If repetition is too easy, the weight used is too little. And in case it is not possible to complete the repetitions, it means the weight carried is too heavy.

5.         A repetition is one complete exercise movement from the starting point to finish and then back again to the starting point. A set is a group of repetitions of the same exercise. Therefore, for the upper body 8 repetitions is one set. For the lower body, 15 repetitions forms one set.

6.         We prescribe three sets of exercises for each muscle group. However, several systems of weight training prescribe different repetitions as well as different sets.

STRESS MANAGEMENTSTRESS MANAGEMENT

Stress has existed from the time of Early Man but has now become an omnipresent phenomenon in the life of ‘Modern Man’. It has pervaded all layers of life.

Stress is the bio-psycho-social response of the body to a demand, mental or physical. Stress is an arousal response the body makes, when a situation is perceived as being stressful. The impact of this arousal affects emotional as well as cognitive thinking. The impact is seen in behavioral and physiological change. When stress is long term and chronic it leads to chronic psychosomatic ailments. While there is an undeniable link between stress and illness, optimal stress is a prerequisite for success in every task. Stress is the wind beneath your wings pushing you towards achievement. If stress can trigger off psychosomatic ailments in those living in the fast track, it can be a trigger even to those who suffer from monotony, boredom or frustration. It is therefore very essential to bring a balance between too much and too little stress.

The first step in managing stress is to develop a stress-free personality. A high self-esteem, assertive behavior and a positive attitude help in building a stress-free perception. It also helps to focus on areas where control and change are possible. Locate the source of stress and use a problem solving approach to deal with it step by step. All stress you can understand. Some you can change. Some you may have little control over. You may then need to change your attitude and response towards these stressors. Thereby reducing stress.

Any exercise programme done regularly utilizes the body’s stress hormones. Exercise not only makes the body fit, but also acclimatizes the heart and lungs to increased activity, as in stressful situations. Relaxation and meditation techniques result in calming brain waves, and reducing the effects of stress. This is especially effective with stress related ailments such as Hypertension, Headaches, Digestive ailments, Cardiac ailments, Sleep problems to name just a few. Stress may be an irritant in your life or it may be a factor of passive existence. Change of perspective will help change this stress to an active, rewarding life. One of the best gifts of nature is sleep. Daily sleep of 6 - 8 hours helps in relaxation and repair of the body and mind. It provides sufficient time for deep - NREM and dream REM sleep restoring physical and mental health.
